The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy in Kuwait has received bids for the 400 kV Overhead Transmission Line (OHTL) project connecting the Al Shaqaya solar power station to Al Wafra substation. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) submitted the lowest bid of KWD 41.45 million (USD 135.2 million). This project is part of Kuwait’s Shagaya Renewable Energy Park, which includes a 50 MW Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant, 10 MW wind farm, and 10 MW photovoltaic plant, aiming to generate 3.2 GW of renewable energy by 2030.

The project supports KISR’s Shagaya Renewable Energy Master Plan to generate 3.2 GW by 2030, which began with a 50 MW CSP plant (commissioned in 2018), a 10 MW wind farm, and a 10 MW PV plant. The CSP plant alone reduces over 81,000 tons of CO₂ annually.

The 2,000 MW Al Sadawi Solar Project, part of Saudi Arabia's National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), is set to begin commercial operation in Q2 2027. Shanghai Electric had earlier signed a cooperation agreement for the 2GW project with MASDAR in April 2025.
