The 2,000 MW Al Sadawi Solar Project, part of Saudi Arabia's National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), is set to begin commercial operation in Q2 2027. Shanghai Electric had earlier signed a cooperation agreement for the 2GW project with MASDAR in April 2025.

Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has received bidders' proposals for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with a combined capacity of 1,000 MW in Tabuk and Hail regions of Saudi Arabia. Xiamen Hithium Energy Storage submitted the lowest prices for supply and maintenance, while Alfanar Projects offered the lowest bids for construction. The BESS will provide load shifting, black start, frequency regulation, and voltage support. The awarding of these projects is pending successful evaluation. SEC previously awarded contracts for 2,500 MW BESS in January 2025.
